CW5 Scott R. Owens

Chief Warrant Officer Owens entered the United States Army on 2 November 1983, completing Basic Training in Fort Dix, New Jersey. He attended Advanced Individual Training (AIT) in Fort Belvoir, Virginia where he trained as a Terrain Analyst Military Occupational Specialty 81Q. His first assignment was at Fort Hood, Texas with the 524th Engineer Detachment, Headquarters and Headquarters Company 2nd Armored Division, where he served as a Terrain Analyst from 1984-1987. From 1988-1989 he was assigned to A Company, 532nd Military Intelligence Battalion, 501st Military Intelligence Brigade, Korea, where he served as a Terrain Analyst in the Intelligence Preparation of the Battlefield Section. He served in various other units until he was selected to attend the Warrant Officer Candidate School at Fort Rucker, Alabama in July 1992.

Upon graduation from the Warrant Officer Engineer Basic Course (Terrain Analysis Technician, MOS 215D) he served in HHC 2nd Infantry Division, Camp Red Cloud Korea as the division's Terrain Analysis Technician from 1992-1993. From 1994 to 1996 CW5Owens served as the Terrain Analysis Technician for the 1st Cavalry Division. In 1996 he returned to Korea and served as the 8th Army Terrain Analysis Technician. From 1998-2000 he served as the 4th Infantry Division's Terrain Analysis Technician where he stood up the first Digital Division Terrain Team under FORCE XXI.

In 2001 CW5 Owens was assigned to the 130th Engineer Brigade, Germany where he served as the Vth Corps Geospatial Information Technician. In 2003 he deployed with Vth Corps for Operation Iraqi Freedom I. Upon redeployment he was assigned to the United States Army Engineer School as a Training Developer/Writer in the Specialties Branch, Directorate of Training and Leader Development from 2004-2005. In 2005 CW5 Owens became the Senior Geospatial Engineering Technician, TRADOC Capabilities Manager – Geospatial and worked geospatial interoperability issues across TRADOC, the Army and Coalition Army partners. CW5 Owens is currently the Engineer Regimental Chief Warrant Officer at the United States Army Engineer School, Fort Leonard Wood Missouri.

CW5 Owens has attended the Primary Leadership Development Course, Basic Noncommissioned Officer Course, Warrant Officer Candidate School, Warrant Officer Basic Course, Warrant Officer Advanced Course, Warrant Officer Staff Course, and the Warrant Officer Senior Staff Course. He has a B.S. in Information Systems Management from the University of Maryland, University College. CW5 Owens' military awards include the Bronze Star Medal, the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters, the Joint Service Achievement Medal with one Oak Leaf Cluster, the Army Commendation Medal with four Oak Leaf Clusters, the Army Achievement Medal with four Oak Leaf Clusters, the Iraq Campaign Medal and numerous other service medals and ribbons. CW5 Owens is a recipient of the Bronze De Fleury Medal.
