Service Members, Leaders, Civilians, Families, and Teammates:

On the 4th of August, we celebrate the 225th birthday of the United States Coast Guard.

The Coast Guard has a long and distinguished history, participating in every conflict we have fought, including landing troops at Guadalcanal and Okinawa, North Africa, the Normandy beaches, Korea, Vietnam, Afghanistan, and Iraqi Freedom, among many other campaigns.

Founded initially as the Revenue Cutter Service in 1790, the Coast Guard received its present name in 1915 when the Revenue Cutter Service merged with the U.S. Life-Saving Service to form a single maritime force dedicated to the safety of life at sea and enforcing the Nation's maritime laws.

Today, Coast Guardsmen continue to perform heroic duty throughout the world, standing shoulder-to-shoulder with America’s Soldiers, Marines Sailors, and Airmen. These men and women play a vital role in the security of our Nation, and we are honored to serve with them. Happy Birthday, Coast Guard!
