58th Transportation Battalion Commander Sergeant Major's Biography

58th Transportation Command Sergeant MajorCommand Sergeant Major Arthur L. Johnson Jr. enlisted in the United States Army on 13 Oct 1988 and completed Basic Training at Fort Jackson, South Carolina. After completion of Advanced Individual Training (AIT), he was awarded the MOS 14S (Manpads Crewmember) in March 1989. Command Sergeant Major Johnson re-classed to the Transportation Career Field on September 1995 at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri.

Command Sergeant Major Johnson’s assignments included overseas tours in Kaiserslautern, Germany; Camp Humphrey’s, Korea. His CONUS assignments included tours at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, with the 82nd Airborne Division; Fort Polk, Louisiana, with the 5th Infantry Division; Fort Eustis, Virginia, as the First Sergeant of 2nd Staff and Faculty. Command Sergeant Major Johnson deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom II and VI and deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom II, Operation New Dawn, and Operation Inherent Resolve. He has served in a myriad of duty positions including Manpads Crewmember, Stinger Team Chief, Squad Leader, Platoon Sergeant, Transportation Coordinator, Truckmaster, Operations Sergeant, First Sergeant, and the 82nd Division Transportation Office (SGM).

Command Sergeant Major Johnson’s military education includes the Combat Lifesaver Course, Airborne School, Air Assault School, Pathfinder School, Jumpmaster School, Support Operation’s II Course, Joint Logistics Course, Equal Opportunity Leader’s Course, Warrior Leader’s Course (WLC), Advance Leader’s Course (ALC), Senior Leader’s Course (SLC), Advance Individual Training (AIT) Platoon Sergeant School, Master Resilience Course and the United States Sergeant’s Major Course (Class 64). He has completed his Bachelors of Arts in Criminal Justice from Fayetteville State University.

Command Sergeant Major Johnson’s awards include the Bronze Star Medal, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (4th OLC), Army Commendation Medal (9th OLC), Army Achievement Award (5th OLC), Meritorious Unit Award and the Meritorious Unit Commendation Award. Command Sergeant Major Johnson’s was selected as the 2004 Transportation NCO of the Year. Command Sergeant Major Johnson was also awarded the prestigious Combat Action Badge, Master Parachutist Badge, Pathfinder Badge, Air Assault Badge, and the German Parachutist Badge.
