43rd AG Reception Battalion History

The 43d Adjutant General Battalion (Reception) was originally constituted on 27 December 1942 as the Headquarters and Headquarters Company Detachment, 43d Replacement Battalion. The unit activated on 25 February 1943 at the New Orleans, Louisiana, port of embarkation, where it remained until 2 April 1943. The unit made a series of stops prior to its overseas deployment. From 5 April 1943 to 2 September 1943, the battalion was assigned to the Army Ground Forces and Desert Training Center at Ono, California, for training. From there it moved to Camp Cook, California, on 2 September 1943 where it remained until 4 April 1944. It arrived at Camp Stoneman, California, 9 April 1944 in preparation for leaving the United States for the Philippine Islands.

On 27 April 1944 the battalion embarked from San Francisco, California, aboard the troop ship "West Point", a converted passenger ship formally named the "America". The ship made a brief port call at Brisbane, Australia, on 12 May 1944, departing 14 May 1944. It arrived at Milne Bay, New Guinea, 19 June 1944 and departed 27 February 1945. The battalion arrived at Luzon, Philippine Islands, on 14 March 1945 and remained there until it was inactivated 1 May 1946.

A United States Army Reception Station was established at Fort Leonard Wood in 1953, and upon closing of other reception stations in 1954, became the only such station in the Fifth United States Army area.

On 19 May 1987 the unit reactivated through redesignating the United States Army Reception Battalion, Fort Leonard Wood as the 43d Adjutant General Battalion (Reception). The organization concurrently transferred to the United States Army Training and doctrine Command and organized at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri.

The 43d Adjutant General Battalion (Reception) has two World War II campaign credits, the New Guinea and Luzon Campaigns. The unit also has one unit decoration, the Philippine Presidential Unit Citation, with streamer embroidered with the dates 17 October 1944 to 4 July 1945.
